Dear Morenci Families and Community Members,
This morning, one of our middle school students was involved in an accident while riding his bike to school. He was struck by a truck near the Sunset Church. Thankfully, the student is stable and receiving the necessary medical care. Our thoughts are with the student and their family as they focus on recovery.
This incident highlights the importance of safety for everyone. As drivers, please remain vigilant around areas where children travel. Slowing down, paying attention, and avoiding distractions are essential in keeping our roads safe.
We also encourage families to discuss the importance of bike and walker safety with their children. Remind them to wear helmets, use crosswalks, stay on bike paths, and be mindful of traffic. While we have discussed this in the past, we will continue to reinforce its importance with all students.
We appreciate our first responders' quick response and community support. By staying alert and working together, we can help ensure the safety of our students as they travel to and from school.
Best regards,
Jennifer L. Morales
MUSD Superintendent
