LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS COMPLETE OSHA-10 TRAINING
Forty-nine Morenci High School students enrolled in Construction Technology, Industrial Electrician, and Welding Technology courses participated in an OSHA-10 Outreach Training held in the MHS MPR on September 7th, 2023. A similar training was held the day before in the Graham County Services Building in Safford for approximately 150 students enrolled in similar courses in Graham County high schools. These OSHA-10 Outreach Trainings were made possible by the Gila Institute for Technology (G.I.F.T.), a Career and Technical Education District (CTED) that serves the communities of Graham and Greenlee counties and that offers high school students advanced training for workplace success. The training was a culmination of five weeks of instruction in school and workplace safety.
“It showed me just how seriously I need to take safety while working. Something as little as not putting your hair up can cause serious injuries and problems for you and others.” Lily Jweinat, MHS Welding III student
“OSHA-10 is an amazing program that allows students in all grades to learn certain practices and skills. It shows hazards and problems that could exist in a workplace. Ultimately, it is a good class for future jobs such as welding and construction.” -Ally Finch, MHS Welding II student
“I believe safety and our OSHA-10 course are important for students to understand that safety not only helps in shop work but as they continue in future careers.” -Tony Aguinaga, MHS Construction and Welding Technologies instructor and Skills USA Advisor
Students will receive a wallet-sized card issued by the U.S. Department of Labor. This card will never expire. Having this training verification helps students to become more employable in the future because potential employers can be assured that the students know how to recognize and avoid common job-related safety hazards.
