Fourth Graders Ranch Field Trip

By Jennifer Morales

Fourth grade students from Metcalf were able to experience first-hand how to operate a ranch. This field trip was an extension activity from their Arizona 5 C’s Unit. Students learned that each ranch may have up to 8 different brands, practiced branding on pieces of wood, explored different types of saddles and bridles, and were taught the importance of healthy eating and why it is important to grow your own vegetables. In addition, they discovered different parts of a calf, learned there are many different breeds of cows and that they are similar to a human because they have two arms and legs. This trip would not have been possible without the support of The Menges Family, Greenlee County Cowbells, and Morenci Fire Association. Thank you for always giving your time and resources our students!
